The Benefits of Gold for the Skin
What exactly are the benefits of gold for the skin and why is it being added to so many skin care products and treatments? The whole concept of this really interests me, not only because it sounds really luxurious but also because those who indulge in these types of skin care treatments seem to have nothing but good things to say about them and swear by their results.
Gold is said to have numerous benefits when used in skincare products and treatments which in turn has lead to it becoming quite a popular lavish treatment. There are many luxury spas that offer high-end treatments that involve the application of gold to the skin but there’s also a lot of other inexpensive gold infused products out there making it available for almost anyone to try.
Where Did the Idea Come From
The use of gold as a beauty treatment actually goes way back and is believed to have been used by many civilizations including the Romans, the Chinese and the Egyptians. It was used for the treatment of many different ailments but it was also often used as a beauty treatment because it was believed to have the ability to help rejuvenate and maintain youthful skin.
Cleopatra was also said to have been a lover of gold for its skin rejuvenating properties and amongst her many other unusual beauty treatments, she was believed to have slept with a golden mask on her face to help maintain her youthful looks and glowing complexion. So, what makes gold so special and what can it do for our skin.
Why is Gold Beneficial for the Skin
One of the first beliefs is that gold has anti-inflammatory properties so applying it to the skin is meant to bring down inflammation and redness. This is said to not only help even out skin tone and bring down puffiness but to also help with the appearance of acne and blemishes. It is also thought to have antibacterial properties too which helps to maintain a clear complexion.
Gold is also said to help stimulate cell growth and cellular repair which is one of the reasons for the popular belief that it helps rejuvenate the skin. This is said to give the skin a noticeably tighter appearance. It is also said to boost blood flow to the area in which it’s applied, leaving the skin with a glowing appearance as well as increasing the skin’s moisture levels too. This is also important because dryer skin tends to age more prematurely than skin that is well moisturised.
It Reduces Fine Lines and Wrinkles
There are a couple of factors involved that when combined together are said to result in fewer fine lines and wrinkles. The first one is that gold is said to minimise the depletion of collagen which is a major cause of aging skin. It’s also believed to be an antioxidant which means its protects the skin from oxidative damage which is a major cause of collagen and elastin breakdown.
The stimulation of cell growth and cell repair is another reason so when you combine all these things together, gold is not only thought to help slow down the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles but also to improve and reduce the appearance of those already present. Another belief is that gold can help increase elasticity in the skin which can help improve the appearance of sagging skin as well as reducing the further breakdown of elastin which means firmer and more toned looking skin.
It Brightens the Skin
Regardless of all the other claims, there is one claim that seems to be undisputed and that’s its ability to brighten the skin and leave you with a glowing complexion. I guess this one is pretty obvious really because if you consider the tiny golden particles that are present in these kinds of treatments and products, it only makes sense that the skin will be left, well glittering with gold dust really.
The luminosity is said to be somewhat amazing after the use of these types of products and that much I can certainly believe. Unfortunately, there is very little research into most of the other claims but that hasn’t stopped skin care companies from making and selling tons of these gold infused products or stopped consumers raving about their great results after using them.
What Types of Products Are Available
Unless you happen to have large amounts of money to throw away then chances are most of us wouldn’t dream of spending the kind of money that’s required to have this type of luxury treatment done in a spa, at least not on a regular basis but that doesn’t mean that we can’t still indulge as there are many other less expensive ways to try it out in the comfort of your own home.
There is a variety of different gold infused products that include creams, masks and serums and even some well-known names are including it in their products. Or if you’re not afraid of looking a little bit odd then there are always gold sheet type masked that are placed over the face or under the eyes for a face pack type treatment. There are even gold facial massagers if you’re really looking for a treat.
Final Thoughts
Well, this has certainly peaked my interest and as much as I hate to admit it, I’ve been sucked right into this one and I already have a whole bunch of gold infused products on their way to me as I write this. I know, I know, I’ve being seduced by the promise of some miraculous ingredient that has age reversing qualities.
But with that said, I’m also under no illusion that this is any kind of cure-all skin care ingredient that will eradicate all skin issues known to man (wouldn’t that be nice) but I’m certainly interested to see what all the hype is about and whether or not these products actually do have something to offer so keep a look out as I’ll post up the results once I’ve tried them.
What about you, have you tried any gold infused treatments or products and what results did you get from them? I’d love to hear all about it so do please share your stories in the comments below.

This is an interesting post, Jessie.
I never really do anything special to my face, but anything that helps us to maintain our health and decreases cell damage is of interest to me.
I have learnt a lot a lot about gold from reading this information. I will certainly be more conscious now of what I put on my face.
